METHODOLOGY
Compatibility before clicks.
The Replacement Index is built as a structured reference database. The first seed records are transcribed from manufacturer product-family and product specification pages, with source URLs retained during research.
What we match
We prioritize markings that materially narrow a replacement: manufacturer series, nominal wattage, exact cap/base designation, pin count, color code or CCT, luminous output when available, and manufacturer order number.
What we do not assume
A matching pin count is not proof of compatibility. A matching base is not by itself proof that an LED retrofit is safe on an existing ballast. Product pages therefore distinguish between an exact legacy reference and a replacement search path. LED compatibility is only promoted to a verified replacement after ballast/control-gear requirements are checked against manufacturer documentation.
Commercial links
Retail availability can change continuously. When affiliate links are enabled, that commercial layer remains separate from the core reference record. A product does not become compatible because a retailer lists it.
Corrections
Source provenance is retained in the research dataset so a disputed specification can be rechecked and corrected instead of silently propagated.
